Alcaraz French Open Victory: A Thrilling Four-Set Match Against Dzumhur

Carlos Alcaraz’s French Open victory in the fourth round showcased his determination as he prevailed over a tenacious Damir Dzumhur in a dramatic match.

In this Roland Garros fourth round encounter, Alcaraz, the defending champion, initially appeared to have control with a commanding two-set lead. Yet, Dzumhur’s spirited comeback forced the match into a challenging fourth set under the lights of Court Philippe Chatrier. 🎾

    Alcaraz’s Determined Performance

Carlos Alcaraz, aiming to emulate his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal by retaining the Roland Garros title, eventually secured a 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win. “I didn’t enjoy it too much,” confessed the 22-year-old Alcaraz. “I suffered quite a lot but I’m happy to have played a good match with Damir. Winning Grand Slams is hard because you need to keep your focus for three or four hours. The first two sets were under control, then he started playing deeper and more aggressively. My energy dropped, and it was tough to push, but I gave everything I had. I’m proud to get the win.”

Next up, Alcaraz faces the formidable 13th seed Ben Shelton, who triumphed over Italy’s Matteo Gigante 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. Explore more about these players on the ATP Tour website.

    Dzumhur Alcaraz Match Recap

Despite a shaky performance in his earlier match against Fabian Marozsan, Alcaraz appeared ready for a smoother ride against Dzumhur. Initially, Alcaraz overcame two early break points and clinched the first set with ease, winning five consecutive games. Dzumhur, frustrated, struggled to keep up with Alcaraz’s prowess on Paris clay. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Dzumhur unable to capitalize on his break points.

However, in the third set, Alcaraz’s game began to falter as Dzumhur found his rhythm. After pausing for knee treatment, Dzumhur broke Alcaraz’s serve, striving for his first Grand Slam fourth-round appearance. Alcaraz missed several break-back opportunities, allowing Dzumhur to win the set.

    Rollercoaster Fourth Set

The fourth set saw Dzumhur break Alcaraz early, but the Spaniard’s persistence paid off. Alcaraz regained control, winning four consecutive games. Although broken while serving for the match, he broke back to seal the victory as the clock approached midnight in Paris. Rune, who recently bested Alcaraz in the Barcelona Open, rallied from two sets to one down to win 4-6, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Rune will now face Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Elsewhere, 12th seed Tommy Paul claimed victory in another five-setter against Russian 24th seed Karen Khachanov and will meet Australian 25th seed Alexei Popyrin next. American 15th seed Frances Tiafoe overcame compatriot Sebastian Korda and will face unseeded German Daniel Altmaier.

Notably, French 14th seed Arthur Fils withdrew from his third-round match due to injury, granting Russian 17th seed Andrey Rublev a passage to the fourth round. Visit the official Roland Garros website for more insights into these matchups.
